30 for 30 Fashion Remix Challenge: Color Blocking Success! Day 4 outfit

Now that the trend is probably on it's way out...I finally mastered the color blocking trend :)

I saw this post Monday on a (new to me) blog I follow, Economy of Style:

I immediately thought of my newly thrifted pencil skirt that I purchased at Goodwill during my $100 Style Challenge (click here for video)

You will not believe how much out of pocket I spent on this outfit...less than $25!!!!!!!!!!!!

The skirt cost $3.39 from Goodwill...

The yellow longsleeve tee was $7.95 at Marshall's. The shoes were the most expensive at $14 on eBay.

My three favorite pieces are the necklace, jacket and belt...all gifts.

I had been eyeing this necklace at Stein Mart, hoping it would go on sale. It didn't, so I decided to "gift" it to myself for my birthday. I knew I would get a lot of wear out of it, so it would be worth the price (it cost 4 times what I usually pay for necklaces!). Well when I decided to purchase, I happened to be wrapping up Christmas shopping with mom (smart move), and she said she would get it for me as part of my Christmas present...HOLLA!

The Ann Taylor denim blazer belonged to my aunt. It was gifted by her husband and daughter when we were cleaning out her things.

The belt was a recent birthday gift from my cousins, Omar and Toya. Love those crazy kids! :)

I felt super cute and cool in this outfit... 

Blogger Feature: Prissy and Nicole from Rush Our Fashion

While I was stalking reading blogs, I somehow stumbled across a blog called Rush Our Fashion. I loved the feminine, stylish and even sexy (in a wholesome way) quality of the outfits I saw. I reached out to the relatively new bloggers and they graciously shared a bit of their story with my Trendy Socialite fam.

What is the name of your blog?  Rush Our Fashion

What is the purpose of your blog?   

Currently, we’ve been doing a lot of outfit posts, but soon we will have posts that address health issues & relationships. Our purpose is to show women how they can look fabulous inside and out. 

How did you get started blogging?

We have been stalking blogs for a while now.  We talked about starting one of our own for months, but never did it. One day we just set a deadline to start & we’ve been blogging ever since.

What are your favorite topics to blog about?

Prissy: Fashion would definitely be my favorite.  I love anything that has to do with fashion, makeup, shoes, just anything “girly”.

Nicole: Right now, the central focus has been on fashion; however, as there are 2 of us, we will be expanding the repertoire to include health issues, relationship issues, self esteem discussions and just anything as it relates to everyday life. The blog is a fashion blog first, but I’d like to see if transition into a fashion/lifestyle blog.

What has been your favorite blog post to date?

Nicole: I’ll allow Prissy to answer that as she has been blogging a lot more than I have lately. (snickers) But seriously, the first blog post will probably always be my fav as it signified that Prissy and I had finally “did it”. We were finally marking through that common entry on our each of bucket lists that said “Start a blog”.

Prissy:  I have 2 favs. Our initial post “New Kids on the Blogspot” was my first favorite. It described us perfectly. My 2^nd fav is “Blazered”. I really liked the outfit & how it made me feel the night I wore it.

Do you have any upcoming features or things blog changes in the New Year?

Yes, there are a few exciting changes and features that we will be implementing after the first of the year.  A blog makeover is definitely in the works. We also have a few other things up our sleeves. Without giving all of the surprises away, one of the things we will be doing very soon is a giveaway, so stay tuned for that.

Do you vlog (via YouTube for example) as well as blog? If so, what are the differences? If not, why did you decide to only blog?

We’ve discussed vlogging.  We are looking to add a new feature to Rush Our Fashion called Talk Tuesday! Eventually, we may start doing other types of videos as well.

What is one thing you love about blogging?

Nicole: It allows me the opportunity to be whoever I want to be and say whatever I feel. It also affords me the opportunity to flex my writing chops!

Prissy: Blogging allows us to have freedom of speech.  I also love all of the lovely comments we receive.

Look to Recreate

If you haven't figured it out by now, I use these blog posts as a way to catalog looks I want to recreate LOL I go back and look at these posts to create looks and shopping lists. So yes, I post these for selfish motives :)

I have two Chinese inspired jackets (I don't know what they are called) that I haven't worn in years because I didn't have any new and creative way to wear them.

But thanks to Tamia at the blog Style Sample I now do!

This is why I HATE getting rid of my clothes...I may find a new purpose and look to create with them and will end up kicking myself later on. I don't even remember where I purchased these jackets, but I have always adored them.

Another Look to Duplicate: Thanks Fashion Nette-work

This is so in my style range...I love EV-ER-Y-THING about it. Hair, jewelry, accessories, clothes. I doubt you would be able to talk to me much on the day I rock this look (or something similar to it). I don't think I have a peach skirt, but I do have a peach pair of slacks (if I didn't give them away AAAHHH!!!). Never the less, this look will be duplicated. This is also a great way to transition pieces from spring/summer into fall/winter.

A Life of Style: Personal Cards

A few weeks ago my friend met a guy while she was in Barnes & Noble. They had a really nice chat and when it came time to exchange phone numbers, she ripped a half sheet of paper from her notebook to write her name and number on. She was excited to get to know him better and was sure he would call within a day or two.

Well he didn't make the first call, she had to call him. He informed her that he was glad she called because he misplaced the paper her number was written on. I told her if she had some cute personal cards like yours truly...he probably wouldn't have lost her number.

Do you know how much random paper you can collect in a day???? Do yourself a favor and make some eye catching personal cards. I only use my business cards for professional events. I never feel comfortable giving a potential suitor my work information right in the beginning.
This is where a personal card comes in handy.

I just have mine printed with my first name, mobile number, and email address. If the guy turns out to be a dud or worse (a stalker), I can easily block his email address and phone number.
