Hair Styles

This is the first post with some hairstyles that I like. I will try to post at least 3 types of hairstyles:

  1. Short and/or medium
  2. Long and/or updo
  3. Braids and/or natural

ENJOY!!!!!

Short: This is a relatively simple hairstyle, but the flips on the side and in the crown give it pizzazz, without being over-the-top....

Long: I like the flirty, sexy bangs on this one and I also like the super straight look. Bangs go in and out of style weekly, but this is cute. The bangs are also long enough to be swept out of the way if "no bangs" are in style on a particular day...LOL Natural: I'm not sure what's going on around her edges (looks like they may be graying) but overall I think this style is adorable. I also like the way it modernizes and adds edge to an otherwise simple "little black dress"

Feel free to weigh in on what you think....and don't forget to begin sending me links and pictures of styles you want me to feature.

My New Favorite Lotion

I'm a lotion junkie! I try and use several different lotions every day. Over the years, I've developed favorites, but I will certainly try a new product that claims to retain more moisture or offer a bronze and shimmer glow. The reason I usually use more than one lotion is that I have yet to find a lotion that offers the moisture, shimmer and fragrance that I like all in one. So I assumed when I picked up the bottle of Quench by Oil of Olay that I was just adding a new lotion to the 5-6 that are already in my basket.

Quench claims to offer 24 hours worth of moisture. As a woman of color, that usually translates into 8, maybe 12 hours, if you have great skin (and I hate you if you do--just kidding). So I was skeptical. The next morning, I squirted the lotion into my palm. The first thing I noticed was the nice fragrance it had. Not overbearing, but just a hint of fragrance. Certainly nothing that would clash with perfume. As I soothed it on, I noticed just a hint of glimmer. Just enough for an everyday light-reflecting glow. The lotion rubbed in nicely and my skin felt smooth and silky. But the real test came at the end of the day. I was expecting to feel dry skin. Imagine my pleasant surprise when my skin felt as soft as when I first put the lotion on in the morning.

I will suggest that you wash your hands afterwards to avoid getting the shimmer anywhere else.

This lotion has moved up to my starting lineup of daily beauty products. I'm sure my other lotions are feeling a little left out now that I've quenched my lotion fetish (at least temporarily) with Quench by Oil of Olay.

If you are like me, you are constantly looking for inspiration for hairstyles and wardrobe from a variety of sources. If you are also like me, there are few sources for women of color. I am constantly scouring and ripping out pictures from magazines of hairstyles that I like and outfits that I want to copy (minus the designer price tags). But when I'm at the hair salon or standing in my closet trying to put an outfit together, guess what? I can't find the inspiration photos. So this blog is more for me than for others....lol! But I felt that if I was having the same issue, so were others. So here it is...HAUTE AND HAIR!!!!

I will publish photos of hair styles I like. I will try to post a variety of hairstyles, but as a fan and 10-year wearer of short hair, most of my attention will be directed there. I have a few friends who have natural hair, so I'll post hairstyles for those who are natural (some of these styles can be copied by those with processed hair).I will also post my thoughts about products that I use. I tend to be a product junkie, especially lotions. So I will always post something about different products that I run across and decide to try. If you try or use a product and want me to post a review, please feel free to email me. Same thing for shopping, fashion and hair websites. This is definitely a community effort....so let's start some dialogue!

I will also offer some suggestions on how you can get the "haute" look for less....called "Haute for Half." I don't claim to know everything (or most things) about fashion, but I do know how to create a classic look that exhibits individual style and how to do so without breaking the bank.

I look forward to getting to know those of you that will read this blog regularly. And I hope that you will enjoy and contribute to this blog in order to keep it lively. I also hope that you will find plenty of hairstyles that you can use to take to your hairstylist or do yourself.

Haute and Happiness,
