Christmas Day Outfit of the Day: Happy Birthday Jesus

Friday, December 30, 2011

Normally I try not to be cliche with my outfit choices on Christmas Day...

No reds, no greens...definitely nothing with a Christmas Tree on it LOL

So even I was surprised when I chose this red sweater to wear to church and to spend time with family.

I think the addition of animal print accessories helps tone down the Christmas-y nature of the sweater. If you follow my blog, you know I have a bit of an animal print obsession...don't judge me LOL.
I even have a board on Pinterest (do you follow me on Pinterest? If not, what are you doing with your life?!?! LOL). Again, don't judge me LOL

I hope everyone had a safe, enjoyable, relaxing holiday. I know I did! Have a shown you a picture of my godson recently. He's 15 months, walking saying "oooooooh" (like Thelma used to say on Good Times) and just generally a happy kid with some juicy lips. I love that little boy :)

I am directing a wedding on NYE and I already have my outfit planned for that. Wanna see?!?!? You'll have to check back on Monday (I'll be "taking to the bed" beginning Sunday evening recuperating from the weekend LOL).

30 for 30 Fashion Remix Challenge: My Favorite Outfit To Date

I love this outfit...

It's colorful yet classic and I think it best embodies what the 30 for 30 challenge is all about - finding new ways to wear items in your wardrobe. This outfit is a complete 30 for 30, but this is the first time I've worn the blouse. I honestly didn't think I was going to wear it during this challenge because I couldn't think of stylish way to wear it...until I came up with this.
Before starting this challenge, I doubt I would have worn this outfit like this. I would have played it safe and worn a dark colored pant or tried to match exactly a color in the blouse. There is not a lot of red in it.

I was really supposed to take my initial set of pictures with my cardigan sleeves pushed up...like pictured below. I think this makes it even a bit funkier to me.

I love the mix of color definitely!

But I think the thing I love the most about the outfit is that the blouse was once my (late) aunt's. I've been really pleased how many of her things have effortlessly become a part of my wardrobe.

Am I Blue? An Outfit of the Day Post...

Probably one of my favorite outfits...

I wore this to church the Sunday after my birthday.

I do feel fashion forward when I wear this...like I could almost compete with the best of the best fashion bloggers out there. This is definitely one of my go-to, feel good outfits. There is an extra bit of confidence to my walk when I wear this. :) We all have that piece or outfit (or at least we should) that makes us feel extra cute!

The skirt is one of my favorite Goodwill pieces. I had it hemmed and here ya go. I pretty much figured I would wear it with a black turtleneck of some sort, but I wanted to bring out one of the stripes in the skirt.

I thought the red would be a little too dark, green may make me look like Santa's elf, but that wearing blue would give the outfit a nice pop of color.

The hair is Day 3 of what is now a 14 day old twistout. Yes! I've worn my twist out for 14 days straight. I think I should call Guiness, because this is definitely a world record for me. I recorded a video on Day 9 and I have finally uploaded a tutorial demonstrating my nightly moisturizing and twisting regimen. I suppose I should wash it soon, but I'm so afraid I won't be able to get it back like this again :)

30 for 30 Fashion Remix Challenge: Untitled Again

Thursday, December 29, 2011

I have no clever title for this outfit. I've worn some version of this in yrs past, but never documented it. This is not super creative or fashion forward. Just a good ol work outfit :). Sometimes that's all you can muster.

This is what I call a "no brainer" outfit. I would definitely wear this on a morning where I did not feel like "putting together" an outfit.

The brooch on the denim jacket is a custom made brooch by yours truly.

I am in the process of launching my side hustle, Modern Vintage Accessories. In addition to custom and handmade brooches like this one, I am also offering vintage jewelry. Like it on FaceBook or follow it on Twitter to keep up with the latest and know when I begin offering pieces.

Jacket: JCP
Tank: Wal-Mart
Necklace: Big Lots
Brooch: Modern Vintage Accessories (ME!)
Shoes: SRI Shoe Warehouse

30 for 30 Fashion Remix: Military School Mom...LOL

I feel like this outfit could qualify me for a cameo on "Beyond Scared Straight" with some "tough" tweenies in front of me...

especially with this facial expression :)

In high school, I wore ties a lot. This is the first time I've worn a tie in years. I think I would have liked the look better if the skirt was a couple of inches shorter...looks a little dowdy otherwise. But it's ok.

I added this shirt to my 30+ for 30 collection after I purchased it (yes, I broke the no purchase rule - don't judge me lol) from The Salvation Army store. I think it may be a men's shirt, but it fits, so that's all that matters to me.

Express Shirt: Salvation Army
Tie: Dad's
Skirt: Goodwill
Tights: Beauty Supply Store

This Dress Brought To You By The Letter 'S'

Thursday, December 22, 2011

And 'S' is for Sadie...my aunt.

This is another piece I picked while going through Aunt Sadie's closet after her passing. I first wore this November 13 at my church's anniversary service. I have since worn the dress two more times. I love it!

The dress still had tags on it when I brought it home.

This dress can be worn year round and it can be dressed up or down. And it helps that it's one of my favorite colors: purple. But I am not sure whether I love the dress or the fact that it was owned by my aunt (even though she never wore it).

The 12 Days of a Natural Christmas (Gift Suggestions for the Natural in Your Life)

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

For the next 12 days (even on Christmas Day!) I will provide you some ideas on gifts you can give the person with natural hair in your life. Most of them will be online vendors, so you will need to order pretty quickly to ensure you receive them before Christmas.

Today's gift suggestion is a holiday giftset from Afiya, LLC. Afiya is an up and coming company owned by Jerilyn Johnson and Ashley Robertson (my soror!).

Afiya was a sponsor of the first meetup I co-hosted with Moni Brodie (of Moni's Haute Boutique). She also sent a couple of products for me to try. I have been hooked ever since!

I haven't tried all of their products, but I am particularly fond of the Essential Hair Oil and the Healthy Hair Butter.
One of my favorite things about this product (in addition to its moisturizing properties) is the smell! My hair smells so good when I use this...and it smells good ALL DAY. I remember one particular instance when I wore it out to an event and a male friend of mine said my hair smelled great! And I had not used the product since applying it that morning.

You can check out my review of the product below.

The 12 Days of a Natural Christmas are my own personal suggestions. Any company I mention is because I like them.
I have been in no way paid or compensated for my opinions or recommendations.

Random Pictures

Since purchasing my iPhone I have been more inclined to take pictures. For your viewing pleasure, here are some that I've taken over the past two weeks.

I love this fascinator I saw at a local shop...

This is my mom's mantle. She collects angels. I love how she displays them!

Have I shown you pictures of my godson, RJ?!?!? He is almost 15 months. This was from Thanksgiving Day. He is fascinated with phones. He has managed to find a button on our phone that "speaks" when he presses it. Therefore he pressed it about a million times in 20 minutes :) Gotta love that kid though...

I think I would be offended if someone bought me a Crest gift set for Christmas if I didn't ask for it LOL...What you trying to say?!?!?!!?

Picture of a YouTube subbie and I at a natural hair show in my town of Greenville, NC While I was walking around, a lady said, someone just showed me your picture as a style they wanted! And it was her...I LOVE meeting subbies :)

This is Tracy Gatlin. She won a hair steamer compliments of Huetiful, who was a sponsor at my last meetup on December 3. I don't even have one of these... *le sigh*

My mom preached at a church not too long ago and I was struck by the nails on this woman. I was sitting in back (as I do when we visit churches--I have to people watch LOL) and I literally thought why does she have a bunch of pencils in her hand?!?!?! WRONG...those are her fingernails. And that's all I'm going to say on that...

Speaking of my December 3 meetup, Tonya Foreman, the owner of the space we use, Mocha's Dance Studio, teaches us line dances! How AWESOME is that. Not sure what the name of this one is, but we've done The Wobble the last two meetups :)

We have a place in Greenville called New River Pottery. During Christmas, it has the most unique, gorgeous trees. This is one of my favorite trees...with peacock feathers. If I had an extra $500-1,000 my tree would look like this!

On Friday, December 9 I attended the Capital City Lawyer's Association Christmas Ball. My cousin, Day, is the outgoing President of the association. The highlight of the evening? Doing The Wobble! The dudes in the Raleigh Durham area are so extra, I no longer like attending events in that area. Most of them won't even speak...but that's another post for another day LOL

I leave you with this picture. This is probably my favorite picture as of late. Saw this at the register at New River Pottery. I showed my mom and we laughed for a good ten minutes...
